XCR-M in 308

Curious as I'm on the fence about getting an XCR in 308, mainly because of the little accuracy information available around this shooter, and no info I can find around long range accuracy (600/800/1000 yards).

The shorter accuracy reports seem to be all over the place with some blogs and reviews stating sub MOA to 2-4 MOA at 100 yards which I would expect to be close with other like semi auto 308s like the SCAR it was competing against as well as normal ar10s, and since these short ranges are in question what is it accurately able to reach out to (reading an ar10 review they were hitting steel pretty easily at 800 yards), as I see no LR reports.

What is the current generation able to accurately reach out to?

Thanks

I can go make gong noises at some point at the big range, but it's going to be a couple weeks before I can get to the 1000yd range to provide data. About the best I've seen out of my 20" M (heavy profile) is 0.75" with 168 SMK hand loads. Still need to try 180s to see which it likes better. I would expect 2.5 moa with steel case, opening to 4 on a hot bore, better with longer bullets.

I'm curious what kind of accuracy those with shorter (16" and 14.5") are getting on a bench with quality ammo. Pretty happy with mine (besides the weight).

Thanks for that roflcopters, if you could post after you get some LR data that would be awesome...even what your seeing at 600.

If I do end up this way would most likely head with the 18" heavy.

I've only shot my 16" once for 'accuracy' and it was only a 3 shot group....and it was steel cased Red Star Army IIRC 147 gr. All 3 touching at 100M, 3/4" or so group. I am not a great shot, so I'm chocking it up to pure luck.

If you're looking for sub MOA, IMO...this isn't an easy platform to ring it out from.
I've got an older thread I'll have to dig up. I got lucky on some groups of Malay surplus but after more rounds found that to be the exception, not the rule. After a lot of trying, best i could call it was about 1.25 MOA. That was trying lots of different factory rounds. Hand loaders have shown better accuracy but it seems like it's always been 3 shot groups.

I use an admittedly unscientific 5rd group for my personal testing. With the M it was usually 3 of them on top of each other with the other 2 rds opening the group up significantly. The catch was it was never the same two rounds in the string.

I like the platform but without hand loading and/or cherry picking your groups, it was never as accurate as my stock rem700 or my aero M5.

After the barrel heats up on my 16”, I can keep 5 shot group in a paper plate at 400yds. I haven’t tried anything beyond that, and feel like that’s not it’s wheelhouse.

Can anyone provide the diameters of the heavy vs light barrels (in .308)? Lots of folks talking about accuracy but nobody seems to acknowledge the two available barrel profiles. One mention of .750" for heavy profile, what is the light?

Thanks.
